There are several categories of books in the Library. These are arranged according to their respective collections and call numbers.
1. Open Shelf Collections
This is the main collection of the library materials, where users can have FREE ACCESS to the collections (as stated within the borrowing privileges of PMU Library).
Registered users may borrow these items within the terms stipulated in the Procedures and Borrowing Privilege of the library.
2. Reference Collections
This type of collection is a non-circulating material. Reference collection is RESTRICTED to the library premises only.
Books such as dictionaries, handbooks, encyclopedias, directories, almanacs and unique or expensive academic works are common reference books that are not available for borrowing, except under special circumstances.
Reference collections can be found at the Reference Shelf of the 1st floor of the PMU library and are identified with the initial 'R' before the call number.
3. Special Collections
This collections are special collections and cannot be borrow, taken out of the premises, or photocopied. It can only be read at the designated area with permissions from the Library staff.
Among the Special Collections in PMU library are the Industrial Assignments, Examination Papers, the PMU Building Operation & maintenance manual, PMU structural drawings, etc.
4. ACT Collections
The Act collections are collections that consist of subjects related to the Malaysia government law, policies & procedures.
5. Kids Collections
PMU library also provide books for the younger generation (for the staff children). The kids collections consist of junior non-fiction books, junior fictions, fairy tales, and also some CDs.
6. Other Collections
Other collections in the PMU library are the fictions, large books, magazines, bulletins, yearly reports, newspapers, CDs, and VCDs.

- Regular Student (standard membership) = max. 3 books for 2 week
- Regular Student (club membership) = max. 5 books for 3 week
- Academic Staff = max. 5 books for 1 month
- Support Staff = max. 5 books for3 week
- Staff children = max. 2 books for 2 week
